5 Facts Ahead of Our Seventh Participation in the FCWC

Football

The Red Eagles are set to be taking on the FIFA Club World Cup stage for the seventh time in Al Ahly’s history when they face C.F. Monterrey of Mexico on Saturday at 6:30 PM at Al Nahyan Stadium.

This will be our seventh participation in the competition and the second consecutive one after last year’s bronze medal.

Here are five facts about our seventh participation in the tournament:

1. Second Most Appearances

We are the second most club to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup behind Auckland City of New Zealand, who have a total of 9 appearances in the competition.

2. Golden Opportunity

The Red Eagles have a golden opportunity in this tournament to beat the record of the most team with games played in the competition, which Auckland City holds with 16 games. We are expected to become the team with most games played, as the Reds will play at least two games in the competition and we have played 14 games in the past.

 3. Players with Most Appearances

Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Aboutrika, our two veteran players, are the two players who have represented Al Ahly the most in this competition, wearing the team’s jersey in 11 games.

4. Special Achievement

We are the only Arab and African team to win two bronze medals in 2006 and 2020 from our six previous participations.

5. Most Goals Scored In A Competition

The Red Eagles managed to achieve a special record in 2006's tournament after scoring five goals in the competition in three games, which are the most number of goals scored by our players in the FIFA Club World Cup.
